CPI livid at Bush's criticism of friendly countries Saturday, March 4 2006 16:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Opposing any move by the UPA government "to be part of U S strategies," the CPI today (Mar 04 2006) expressed "outrage" at the way President George Bush "used Indian soil" to criticise countries friendly to India.
"It shows once again the imperialist arrogance and is a direct call to the Indian government to join U S imperialist strategies the world over in the promotion of global democracy," the party's Central Secretariat said in a statement here.
Observing that "succumbing to US pressures will have grave consequences," it said the government should continue its friendly relations with other countries on the basis of the independent foreign policy based on a multi-polar world as laid down by the Common Minimum Programme.
The party said all Indo-US agreements, including those on the nuclear question, arms deal, technological and knowledge exchange, "must be in keeping with India's time-tested commitments to global disarmament, an independent and progressive foreign policy and self-reliant development."
The CPI said it would not allow any deviation from these policies.
