No impact of MDMK decision on UPA: P R Dasmunsi Saturday, March 4 2006 15:07 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance at the Centre does not expect any adverse impact of its ally MDMK's decision to cross over to the AIADMK camp ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls.
"The happenings in Tamil Nadu may not have any impact on the Centre," Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi told sources here.
The MDMK led by Vaiko had contested the Lok Sabha polls as part of the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance and won four seats as the DPA made a clean sweep of all the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu. The MDMK has no representation in the Union Council of Ministers.
The Ram Vilas Paswan-led LJP had also contested the Bihar assembly polls against the Lalu Prasad Yadav-led RJD despite Congress insisting that those in the UPA should also form part of the state-level alliance.
Paswan had then contended that UPA was only at the Centre and not in the states and had received support from the Communist Party of India on the issue.
