Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court today (Mar 06 2006) directed all the concerned authorities, especially the Ministry of Railways and UPA government "not to further act" on Justice U C Banerjee's report on the Sabarmati Express train carnage till March 8.

"Justice M R Shah of the High Court has asked all the concerned parties, especially the Ministry of Railways from taking any further action based on the (Justice Banerjee's) report," said advocate Megha Jani representing the Railways in the court.

"The Judge has ordered that the report cannot be further acted upon in any manner or by anybody till March eight," Jani said.

The matter will come up before the same court tomorrow.

The High Court is hearing a petition filed by one Nilkanth Bhatia, a relative of a survivor from the Sabarmati Express train carnage, in which 59 persons were killed on February 27, 2002.

The petition filed in September 2005, questioned the formation of the Justice U C Banerjee Committee, as another high-powered Commission (Nanavati-Shah Commission) formed by the Gujarat government was already in place and was investigating the matter.
