Ruling congress violating model conduct code: AGP Monday, March 6 2006 17:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Guwahati:
Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has complained to the Election Commission about alleged violation of model code of conduct by the ruling Congress and demanded deployment of central observers well ahead of the election process.
In a memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon, who is on a tour to Assam, the AGP alleged that the ruling Congress would rig the polls by using government machinery.
"Therefore, we would like to request you to kindly consider deployment of central observers well ahead of the election process and a control office of the Commission headed by an efficient officer to oversee the election," the memorandum said.
"We would also urge you to keep a strong vigil on the polling booths in the highly sensitive and sensitive areas and deploy central para military forces in adequate numbers," the party said.
The Commission should leave no stone unturned to conduct free and fair election next month so that the state could be given a truly democratically elected government, it said.
