Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh BJP today (Mar 06 2006) authorised its president Kesri Nath Tripathi to finalise the names of the party's candidates for the forthcoming elections to the Rajya Sabha from the state and the Legislative Council and recommend the same to the party high command.

State party spokesman H N Dixit told sources here that the decision to authorise Tripathi was taken at a meeting of the party's election committee here.

BJP National Vice-President Kalyan Singh, leader of state opposition Lalji Tandon and other senior state leaders were present at the meeting, he said.

He said the party had decided to hold a two-day meeting of its state executive here from March 26.

Dixit said a plan had been prepared to hold a series of public meetings at different places in the state in the month of April.
