Give the Marxist front tough fight: Margaret Alva Monday, March 6 2006 16:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kochi:
Observing that the coming Assembly polls in Kerala were 'crucial' to the UPA Government, the Congress today asked party workers to fight tooth and nail and win every seat to ensure that the CPI(M)-led left front was defeated in a befitting manner.
Infighting should be a thing of the past.
"Every seat of the congress has to be fought and won.A candidate of the party
is congress president Sonia Gandhi's candidate.Do not defeat your party candidates and leaders. You have the responsibility to ensure that each candidates wins," AICC General secretary Margaret Alva said, inaugurating the general body of the congress state conference here.
"Congress wants Kerala to move forward and not be in the reverse gear as in West Bengal," Alva said.
The marxist party has one policy for Kerala, one for West Bengal and yet another for Delhi, she said.
While the left front unions held the country to ransom, saying the UPA government was privatising the Mumbai and Delhi airports, In West Bengal, land was being taken from farmers and given to multinationals to build cyber city, she charged.
Alva, Congress incharge of West Bengal, said 90 per cent of the population in rural Bengal have no electricity in their homes.During the 29 years of left parties' rule inBengal 40,000 political murders took place, of which 14,000 were young congress workers, she said.
