Amar Singh writes to Shekhawat on Jaya's issue
Tuesday, March 7 2006 12:59 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh has written to Rajya Sabha Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat saying any move to disqualify Jaya Bachchan from the Upper House on the ground that she holds an office of profit as Chairperson of the UP Film Development Board was 'not justified'.

Jaya was holding a 'non-remunerative' post as the Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Board. She was not enjoying any benefits and therefore the question of her disqualification from Rajya Sabha is 'not justified', he said in his letter to Shekhawat.

Singh also said that Jaya was persuaded to head the film body after becoming a member of Parliament in August 2004, according to party sources.
