Patna HC dismisses Md Shahabuddin's bail appeal

Patna: RJD MP from Siwan Mohammad Shahabuddin suffered a setback as Patna High Court today(Mar 7,2006) dismissed his application for regular bail in a case lodged under the Arms Act following recovery of a country-made pistol and several rounds of ammuniton from his Pratappur house in Siwan district on April 24, 2005.

Justice Mridula Mishra rejected his plea for bail on conclusion of arguments by Shahabuddin's counsel Y V Giri and Government counsel Shyameshwar Dayal who vehemently opposed the bail and said prosecution was ready to complete the trial expeditiously.

Mishra also directed the police to ensure completion of trial in the case within six months.

A total of six cases were registered against Shahabuddin after police recovered stolen vehicles, country-made pistols, cartridges of foreign make, foreign currencies, wireless sets and AK 47 rifle and also detected illegal electricityconnection during the raid on his house.

Shahabuddin has also been charged with sedition for allegedly possessing catridges and weapons of foreign make, foreign correncies and wirless sets.

Of the six cases, the Patna High Court had granted regular bail to Shahabuddin in electricity theft and another registered under the Arms Act.
