Assuring a fair and transparent process for preparing the list of people below the poverty line, Government today(Mar 8,2006) said efforts would be made to ensure that all eligible poor people were included in the list and ineligible excluded.
"It is expected that with completion of this exercise, all eligible poor people will be included in the BPL list and ineligible excluded," Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh told the Rajya Sabha.
In a statement tabled in the House amidst the din over Varanasi bomb blasts, Singh said government was making all efforts to ensure transparency in implementation of programmes of the Rural Development Ministry.
He said detailed guidelines had already been issued to states and Union Territories to finalise the new BPL list based on BPL census 2002.
To ensure transparency in the process, instructions had been issued to obtain the approval of Gram Sabha to display the draft BPL list at panchayat headquarters in a prominent place in a village, the Minister said.
