Ahmedabad:
Expressing ignorance about the whereabouts of Zaheera Sheikh, the key witness who turned hostile in Best Bakery case, her counsel Atul Mistry today(Mar 8,2006)
said she was not in touch with him 'since the Supreme Court verdict against her'.
"Since the Supreme Court verdict against her she is not in touch with me. I do not know about the whereabouts of her. It is for the police to trace her. Zaheera has not phoned me in the past few months," he told sources.
Law has to take its own course now, he said.
The Supreme court awarded one year simple imprisonment and a Rs 50,000 fine to Zaheera for contempt of court after accepting the report of the high-powered committee which indicted her as 'self-condemned liar'.
According to legal experts, this is the first case where a riot victim has been sentenced for perjury.
