India has made a bid for getting the World Heritage Status for Delhi's Red Fort, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni said today(Mar 9,2006).
"The nomination dossier for the Red Fort has been submitted to the World Heritage Centre for consideration to include it in the World Heritage list for 2007," she informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
"Also, India has chosen Assam's Majuli Island for entry into the 2006 World Heritage list. UNESCO inspectors visited Majuli after examining the nomination dossier," Soni said.
Monument Revenue: Over Rs 50 crore came from entry fee at Centrally-protected monuments across the country in 2004-05, marking a steady rise in ticket revenues from visits to the historical sites over the past three years, she said in another reply.
The entry-fee revenue was Rs 52.89 crore in 2004-05, Rs 43.59 crore in 2003-04 and Rs 30.51 crore in 2002-03, she added.
