Congress-DIC(K) poll adjustments on cards Monday, March 13 2006 16:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Ruling Congress in Kerala appears to be thinking of tying up with the party led by K Karunakaran, who had broken away from it, by having seat adjustments in the coming Assembly elections.
The issue came up for discussion at a meeting between AICC President Sonia Gandhi and KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala here today (Mar 13 2006).
"We will see to it that there is no division in the democratic front," Chennithala told sources after nearly an hour-long meeting with Gandhi, who had earlier this month authorised the state leadership to take a decision on DIC(K) issue.
He said ruling ally Muslim League has informed the party about the efforts it is making to rope in DIC(K) into UDF coalition, but added that the "modalities" of any possible poll understanding with it are yet to be worked out and would only be finalised in the days to come.
However, things may not be smooth as there are differences in the state unit on the nature of the electoral relationship with the DIC(K) with a section opposing taking it into the UDF fold and favouring only seat adjustments or tacit understanding.
DIC-K president K Muraleedharan had yesterday said that his party was not prepared to enter into "vague" adjustments with any combine and if there is an alliance, it should be open and concrete.
