NCP wants agiculturist CMs for TN and Pondicherry Friday, March 17 2006 17:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Pondicherry:
Stating that both Tamil Nadu and Pondichery needed agriculturist chief ministers, Nationalist Congress Party leader G P Sarathy today (Mar 17 2006) accused both DMK and AIADMK-led fronts of having led the people to nowhere by projecting heroes of the tinsel town.
He also appealed the people to get out of the illusion created by cine actors and actresses in politics.
Claiming that his party has championed the cause of farmers, Sarathy said only an agriculturist chief minister could make progress in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. He also demanded a quota of 33 per cent for farmers in the parliament and state assemblies.
Speaking to sources here, he also announced party's plan to go it alone in the coming assembly polls in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
With regard to the constituencies in Mahe region, he said that the party has already decided to contest both seats.
Decision on the other constituencies in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions would be taken soon, the Tamil Nadu unit president of the party added.
Party leader G Sundaramoorthy has been appointed the president of NCP's Pondicherry state unit, he informed.
