Srinagar-Jammu National Highway opens for vehicles

Jammu: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which had been closed due to landslides, was today(Mar 17,2006) opened for vehicles stranded at different points on the road.

The Border Roads Organisation, which maintains the highway removed the landslides by this morning and all the stranded vehicles were on way to their respective destinations, police said.

However, repair and restoration work was going on at the damaged portions of the road where landslides had occurred,they said adding vehicular traffic would be allowed to ply on the highway from the both the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu after the road is made fully traffic worthy.

Rains had caused fresh landslides at two places near Batote triggering landslides last evening and about 500 vehicles got stranded between Patnitop and Jawahar tunnel due to the blockade.
