Bill in RS for abolition of Administrative Tribunals Saturday, March 18 2006 15:16 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

A Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha today(Mar 18,2006) for abolition of Administrative Tribunals dealing with service related matters since they have become
subject to the jurisdiction of High Courts.
The Adminstrative Tribunals (Amendment) Bill, 2006, moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri, seeks to amend the original Act of 1985, which
envisaged setting up of administrative tribunals.
The amendment Bill also seeks to transfer pending cases to some other authority.
According to the statement of objects and reasons appended to the Bill, the amendment was considered necessary for taking care of the service conditions of its functionaries
like Chairman, Vice-Chairman and members of the tribunal in case it was abolished.
The amendment is also required to provide for appeal against the orders of an Administrative Tribunal to the respective High Courts.
