CPI(M) General Secretary Karat calls on Karunanidhi Saturday, March 18 2006 12:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat today(Mar 18,2006) called on DMK Chief M Karunanidhi at his residence.
Talking to reporters after a 20-minute meeting, Karat told reporters that he thanked Karunanidhi for floating a front of Left and Democratic forces in Tamil Nadu.\
He said the identification of constituencies to be contested by CPI(M) would be completed tonight.
The CPI(M) has been alloted 13 seats in the DPA, led by the DMK.
Karunanidhi said he discussed the latest political situation in the country with the CPI(M) General Secretary.
He said the identification of the 48 constituencies allotted to Congress would be completed either tonight or tomorrow morning.
He refused to comment on the EC's direction to the state Government to shift the city Police Commissioner R Natraj and the state government's petition challenging the directions in
the Madras High Court.
"I am watching the situation as an observor," he said.
