ULFA keeps distance from parties in assembly polls Monday, March 20 2006 15:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Guwahati:
The banned ULFA would maintain equidistance from all political parties in the forthcoming assembly polls in Assam and has warned the parties not to use the outfit's name for their political benefit.
ULFA Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa said in a statement e-mailed to the local media here last night that all political parties pose as saviours of the people during elections but none have so far included the crucial issue of political talks to resolve the problems raised by the outfit.
During every election it has become a habit of political parties to claim that the ULFA is siding with them but the outfit has no reason to have any sort of understanding with any party, the statement said.
Rajkhowa alleged that the elections was a ploy by the government to derail the ULFA's movement and a farce.
He further appealed to the people of the state to help the outfit in their struggle to solve the various ills plaguing Assam.
