BJP slams Congress led MDA Government in Meghalaya Tuesday, March 21 2006 20:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Shillong:
The Meghalaya unit of the BJP today (Mar 21 2006) criticised the Congress led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for its alleged lapases and indecisiveness resulting in law and order problem in the state.
Addressing a press conference here after the state executive meeting which passed political and economic resolutions, state vice president, B B Chetri said the people were disillusioned with the negative approach of the MDA government.
Among a host of political resolutions, Chetri said the MDA government was ''unconcerned over the continuing illegal migration except when non-govermental organisations prodding it at such problem every now and then.''
On the problem of insurgency, Chetri said the MDA government had failed to grasp the opportunity that came its way many months ago when the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) expressed its desire to come to a negotiating table with the Centre for a peaceful solution to the vexed problem.
On the state boundaries and border fencing, he said that the BJP was concerned over the delay in the demarcation of Meghalaya boundaries with Assam and Bangladesh resulting in encroachment of land by Assam and Bangladesh.
Chetri said the BJP had taken serious note of the fact that the state government was not having a clear-cut economic policy for the development of the state and its people.
Development of road centres around Shillong, domestic and foreign tourists complained of bad roads, the health care system was unsatisfactory and power generation was not commensurating with sudden growth of industries, Chetri added.
