Russian President arrives in Beijing for 2-day visit

Beijing: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived here today(Mar 21,2006), kicking off a two-day state visit to China for talks with the Chinese leadership on bilateral, regional and global issues of common concern and sign new energy pact with the communist giant.

During his two-day visit, Chinese President Hu Jintao will have official talks with Putin. The Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and top legislator Wu Bangguo are also expected to meet with Putin.

Meanwhile, China says there are no major problems and obstacles in its relations with Russia after the two countries settled their border disputes last year following four decades of negotiations.

"The two countries set up high-level meeting mechanism and solved the border issue successfully. There are no major problems and obstacles in their bilateral relations," Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said.

"China-Russia relations have developed rapidly and the two countries have increased their mutual understanding," Li said in an interview with the Russian media.

On bilateral military cooperation, Li said China and Russia, share a 4,300-km-long border and will develop long-term and stable neighbourly friendship and mutually-beneficial cooperation.
