The Karnataka government has deployed police to identify terrorist groups and gather information following the December 28 terror strike at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)that claimed the life of a scientist, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy informed the state assembly today (Mar 21 2006).
The government has taken steps to restructure and upgrade the intelligence wing, he told S Rajendran (RPI) during question hour.
Kumaraswamy said seven persons had been arrested in connection with the terror strike at IISc and investigations were under progress.
In the aftermath of the attack, the government had provided special security cover to 'Vidhana Soudha,' the state secretariat, and other landmark buildings and had been holding constant dialogue with captains of IT and BT industries, as several installations in the city were suspected to be target of terrorist attacks, he said.
J C Madhuswamy (JDU) and R Roshan Baig (Congress) alleged that the intelligence wing had failed and cited this as reason for the IISc attack.
As several members stood up to raise queries, Speaker Krishna said he would permit a short duration debate on the issue soon.
