Government committed to Women's quota bill: PM

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (Mar 21 2006) said his government was committed to ensuring reservation for women in legislatures and a bill in this regard would be passed in Parliament as soon as possible.

"Our government remains committed to ensuring reservation for women in state assemblies and Parliament. A bill in this regard will be passed as soon as possible," he said in the Rajya Sabha.

The Prime Minister said this when Telugu Desam member Vanga Geetha, who is among 58 Rajya Sabha members retiring on April 2, requested him to give an assurance in this regard.
