After two days of tough negotiations, Congress and DMK today (Mar 22 2006) completed the exercise of identifying 48 constituencies alloted to the former in the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Front for the assembly polls.
Karunanidhi and TNCC President M Krishnaswamy inked an accord on the constituencies allotted to the Congress.
Congress Working Committee member Veerappa Moily led the Congress team, while DMK president M Karunanidhi led his side in the negotiations, which remained inconclusive till midnight yesterday.
Moily, speaking to sources after the accord was signed, expressed happiness on the succesful completion of talks between the two parties.
Karunanidhi told sources that an accord with the PMK on the list of 31 constituencies allotted to it would be reached either tonight or tomorrow. Though there was no hitch, some discussions were required in respect of one or two constituencies, he said.
The entire list of constituencies allotted to the DMK, Congress, PMK, CPI-M, CPI and the IUML would be released in two days, he said.
The DMK has already signed agreements with the CPI-M, CPI and the IUML on the list of constituencies.
