Harkat ultras harboured designs for Modi: Police Wednesday, March 22 2006 18:57 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
The four Harkat-ul-Mujahadeen militants, who were killed in an encounter here on March 17, had plans to target Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, a senior police official said today (Mar 22 2006).
"It has been known from our intelligence sources that the four terrorists had plans to target Gujarat Chief Minister," Manoj Sasidhar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) told sources.
"There is strong possibility that this might be the reason why they had chosen Vatva as their hide-out base," Sasidhar said.
"Vatva is very near to Maninagar which is the Assembly constituency of Narendra Modi," he added.
Sasidhar said that the four terroists (including two Pakistanis and two Kashmiris) who were shot dead in an early morning operation on March 18 inside a house in Vatva, had also visited Surat when Modi had gone there a few months back to address a rally for local elections.
"There movement has been known from the records of the mobile phones which were seized from them," Sasidhar said.
