Two arrested for indulging in hawala transactions

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in hawala transactions in Baramulla district and recovered a huge amount of foreign currency and some weapons from them.

Acting on a tip off, Special Operations Group of local police assisted by army raided Baniyari village of Hajan in Baramulla and arrested Mohammad Shafi Dar and Noor Mohammad Khan yesterday, Superintendent of Police H R Parihar said.

He said both of them have been involved in hawala transactions to fund militant outfits. Besides Rs 53,000, the raiding party also recovered American and Korean currency valuing lakhs of rupees from them, Parihar said.

Two Chinese pistols and some ammunition were also recovered from the captured persons, who are being interrogated.
