Rail Min. will appeal against stay on Banerjee report Saturday, March 25 2006 10:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Palanpur (Gujarat):
Railway Minister Lalu yesterday (Mar 24, 2006) said his Ministry will appeal in the Supreme Court against the Gujarat High Court order to stay tabling of the U C Banerjee Commission report in Parliament on the Sabarmati Express fire.
"We will approach the Supreme Court to appeal against the Gujarat High court imposed stay. We had approached the division bench to remove the stay after a single bench had imposed the stay. However, even this was rejected and now we will approach the Supreme Court," Prasad told reporters at a Railways function in this town in Banaskantha district.
He said there were three layers of justice and the Railway Ministry would approach the Supreme Court as it had passed through the first two layers.
"The report was prepared by Justice Banerjee as per the task given to him. What has been prepared was not (not) written by me," Prasad said.
Yadav, however, did not (not) specify when the Railway Ministry would approach the Supreme Court against the High Court stay. When asked about UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's resignation from Lok Sabha, Yadav termed her action as "a sacrifice" and praised her.
"She has done this (sacrificing) earlier also she has once again done it. She is a woman of principles", he said.
To a question if his relations with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had improved, the Railway Minister said he had no 'personal enmity' with Modi.
