Sonia Gandhi's resignation is only a drama: BJP Saturday, March 25 2006 10:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
Dubbing Congress president Sonia Gandhi's resignation from the Lok Sabha and as chairperson of National Advisory Council as 'only drama', BJP chief Rajnath Singh yesterday (Mar 25, 2006) night said it was aimed at diverting the attention of the common people from the 'failures' of the UPA Government.
''If she has resigned on moral grounds, why did she not resign in the wake of Volcker report and defreezing of the bank account of Ottavio Quattrochi?'' Singh asked.
The BJP president told sources that Sonia Gandhi's resignation was made under compulsion as otherwise she could neither have faced Parliament, nor the enquiry by the Election Commission.
Singh said that the post of the chairperson of the NAC came under the purview of the office of profit.
''It was known to her that in this circumstance the EC would recommend disqualification of her membership,'' he said.
To a question that many MPs including those belonging to BJP also enjoyed offices of profit, Singh said, ''In the eyes of law there should be no discrimination.''
Asked what would be the next move by his party, the BJP president replied that the future course of action would be disclosed when a bill in this regard would be placed in Parliament.
