Supreme Court vacates stay on trial in Mumbai blast
Monday, March 27 2006 14:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today (Mar 27, 2006) vacated the stay on the trial in Jhaveri Bazar and Gateway of India bomb blast cases in Mumbai in which 55 people were killed and 250 injured in August 2003.

A Division Bench of Justice H K Sema and Justice A R Lakshmanan vacated the stay granted by the apex court in January this year on the Maharashtra government's plea.

Earlier, five of the accused in the twin bomb blasts had approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay of the trial on the ground that the POTA Review Committee had concluded that POTA was not applicable in the two cases.

They had also submitted that in view of the POTA Review Committee findings they could not be tried under the Act.
