Rae Bareli: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi today (Mar 28, 2006) arrived in Rae Bareli, on her first visit to the constituency she had resigned as an MP, to a rapturous welcome from her supporters and party activists. Dressed in a cream-coloured printed saree, Gandhi waved to her supporters from her Tata Safari as they showered her with flower petals.

Her motorcade guarded by Special Protection Group (SPG) and trailed by numerous cars and motorcycles passed through large swathes of fields with schoolchildren lining across holding party flags.

Her supporters erected numerous welcome gates draped on party tricolour as Gandhi travelled into Rae Bareli after shequit her Lok Sabha seat over the office of profit controversy.
