Iran promises 'good news' on natural gas project Tuesday, March 28 2006 10:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Notwithstanding India's anti-vote at IAEA in February, the Indo-Iran bilateral relations are on track with Tehran yesterday (Mar 27, 2006) promising 'good news' on natural gas project.
Visiting Iranian Vice President Rahim Mashaee said it expected India and all other countries to 'understand and support' Tehran's position and 'not be influenced by false propaganda of the West.
Mashaee insisted that his country's nuclear programme was 'very much peaceful' and that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured Indian support on 'certain principles' like peaceful use of nuclear technology by Tehran.
"The Prime Minister has said India is for peaceful solution of the (Iranian nuclear) issue," visiting Iranian Vice President Rahim Mashaee, who met Singh on Saturday last, told reporters here.
India, along with 26 other countries, had voted against Iran at the February 4 IAEA meeting which deliberated upon Tehran's nuclear issue and sought referral to the UN Security Council.
Underlining that cooperation with India was 'a priority' for his country, Mashaee said the relations between the two countries at present was 'very good' and he had emphasised during meeting with Singh that the ties could be enhanced further.
On the proposal of supply of gas to India, he expressed confidence over its early fructification, saying 'good news' could be heard soon. He said his country's Oil Minister would soon visit India to finalise details.
