LDF manifesto lays emphasis on devp. infrastructure
Tuesday, March 28 2006 15:06 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kozhikode: Accusing the ruling Congress-led UDF of pursuing 'anti-people' policies during its five-year rule in Kerala, the CPI(M)-led LDF today (Mar 28, 2006) laid emphasis on developing the basic infrastructure, creating job opportunities and projects in the traditional industries and agricultural sectors.

"The LDF will take necessary steps to take the state forward in all spheres," LDF Convenor Paloli Mohammed Kutty told reporters after releasing the front manifesto here.

Paying particular attention to agriculture sector, the manifesto said it would formulate a scheme to provide more job opportunities in the area and also urge the Centre to 'correct its policies to save the sector from further crisis'.

On the Education sector, it would have a provision for private investment even while ensuring social justice besides constituting an education fund to provide assistance to the needy students admitted to the private professional colleges.

"Our focus will be to help the economically-backward students to pursue a healthy career," Paloli said.

Noting that Tourism had been the primary sector in building the state's economy, the manifesto said the LDF would initiate steps to promote tourism in a big way.

Referring to the suicides committed by debt-ridden farmers, it said the LDF would write-off their loans and come up with a special package to help the suffering farmers across the state.

Promising to create a responsible people-friendly and corruption-free civil service and a mechanism to redress the grievances of the public, the manifesto said attention would be paid to other primary sectors including health.
