Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati today (Mar 28, 2006) visited the family of lawyer Mehar Bhargava, who was shot by assailants here a month ago, with the BSP leader demanding a CBI inquiry into the killing.
Mayawati alleged that the "state police is incapable of conducting an impartial investigation" and said her party would formally be writing to the Governor to direct the government to take action against those behind the killing.
"Only a CBI inquiry can bring out the truth," she told sources after offering condolences to the bereaved family.
Rajeswar visited the family house but did not make an comments before the media.
Mehar Bhargava, the wife of Congress leader Luv Bhargava, was shot at outside their house on February 28 after she objected to some youths passing lewd remarks about here daughter-in-law. She was admitted to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi with gunshot wounds and died on Saturday.
