DMK assures reservation for minorities in services

Chennai : DMK, heading the Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu, today (Mar 29, 2006) promised to bring about a legislation providing reservation for minorities in educational institutions and government services if they come to power in the state.

The party's election manifesto released by its president M Karunanidhi said DMK would continue to press the Centre for a constitutional amendment for providing reservation.

It also promised to repeal the law banning religious conversions.

Besides assuring to provide quality rice through PDS at the rate of Rs 2 per kg, the manifesto said property loans of farmers would be waived off and weavers would get free power.
