Best Bakery case: Zaheera to undergo SC sentence

Mumbai: A sessions court today (Mar 29, 2006) ordered prime witness in the Best Bakery case Zaheera Shaikh to undergo one-year imprisonment in a Mumbai jail as per the Supreme Court order imposed on her for contempt of the court.

Judge Abhay Thipsay ordered police to lodge Zaheera in the Byculla jail here to execute the Supreme Court order sentencing her to one year jail term and Rs 50,000 fine.

The judge also ordered that Zaheera may be given a set off for the period she has already spent in prison after her surrender before the court recently.

The judge adjourned till April 7 the matter concerning show cause notices issued to Zaheera and her family members for perjury (giving false evidence) in the Best Bakery retrial in the Mumbai court.
