Jammu and Kashmir Government to set up labour cell

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government proposes to set up a labour cell comprising members from judiciary, executive and police for implementation of equal remuneration act, safety of women workers against discrimination, sexual harassment and child trafficking.

The proposed cell will be headed by the principal district and sessions judge, Srinagar, Mohamnmad Yaqoob Mir, an official spokesman said after a joint meeting of judiciary, executive and police today (Mar 30, 2006).

He said the meeting was convened on the directions of National Legal Services Authority (NLSA).

Srinagar's Deputy commissioner, Senior Superintendent of police, chief judicial magistrate, deputy labour commissioner, along with two observers of NLSA, two lawyers, two male and one female labour leaders would constitute other members of the commission, the spokesman said.

He said the meeting unanimously decided that labour cell will be accessible to the labourers in both organised and unorganised sector for redressal of their problems and to organise legal literacy missions to make labourers aware of their rights.
