Rahul Gandhi meets party supporters in Amethi
Thursday, March 30 2006 12:41 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Amethi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today (Mar 30, 2006) met party supporters, panchayat leaders and members of different community groups here on the second day of the visit to his constituency.

Gandhi spent more than three hours with scores of people who had lined up at a Guest House, where the young MP is staying.

He is also scheduled to hold a separate meeting with Panchayat leaders and discuss with them ways to strengthen the Panchayati Raj Institutions. He will visit some villages later in the day.

Gandhi launched his three-day mass contact programme in Amethi yesterday mingling with villagers and assuring all help to them in speedy development of their areas.

Yesterday, Gandhi toured a number of villages concentrating mainly on dwellings of dalits and backward classes.

In his characteristic style, Gandhi walked into the dusty swathe of his constituency reminding villagers of the manner in which his father Rajiv Gandhi and grandmother Indira Gandhi had interacted with them.

Chatting with residents of Barsanda village yesterday, he said he was concerned about lack of development in the area and asked them to adopt new techniques for better results, in particular in the field of agriculture.
