Ram Navmi festival begins midst security measures

Ayodhya: The week-long annual Ram Navmi mela to commemorate the birthday of Lord Ram began today (Mar 30, 2006) amidst tight security measures here.

Tight security arrangements have been made to maintain peace during Ram Navmi and additional police force has been deployed at important temples, bathing ghats and sensitive places, where magistrates and police officials have also been posted, official sources said.

The main festival day would fall on April seven on Ram Navmi, which marks the birth day of Lord Ram and the main function would be held at the famous Kanak Bhawan temple, which was built by former maharaja of Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh.

Sources said that a control room was set-up on the bank of Saryu river and a strict vigil was being maintained to ensure peace and order.

Temporary health camps would be set-up in the mela area to provide medical care.

Additional police force from adjoining areas have been deployed at Ayodhya and police check posts have been set-up at all entry points in Ayodhya.

Meanwhile, VHP's Sarvdev Anusthan Yagya also got underwaytoday at Karseakpuram in here.
