New Delhi:
India and Nepal have renewed with certain 'technical modifications' their Treaty of Transit which allows cross-border movement at 15 mutually-agreed points besides by air.
The Treaty, which was in force upto January 5 this year, has been renewed for a period of seven years, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said here.
"The Treaty has been renewed with mutually-agreed technical modifications," he said, adding the renewal took place after completion of the review process provided for under Article XI.
As per the modifications, Indian goods will be allowed to be transported from one point to another in Nepal, a facility already enjoyed by the neighbouring country here, official sources said.
The changes also include designation of certain points for cross-over of 'sensitive goods', refinement of the system of bonds and some administrative amendments at Kolkata port, they said.
The agreement on rail services has also been incorporated in the Treaty, the sources said.
The Treaty was signed on December 6,1991 and is since being extended after every seven years.
