Centre making efforts for safety of Advani: Duggal
Saturday, April 1 2006 11:02 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Centre is making all efforts to ensure the safety of BJP leaders L K Advani and Rajnath Singh during their proposed National Integration marches slated from April six in the wake of intelligence reports that international terrorists organisations could cause harm to them.

"There is definite information that international terrorists and anti-social elements can cause harm to them and all efforts will be made to ensure the security of the yatras," Union Home Secretary V K Duggal told reporters here yesterday (Mar 31, 2006) replying to questions.

"All state governments through which the yatras will pass have been sensitised about efforts that can be made by extremists to disrupt them," he said maintaining that the BJP headquarters had been asked to provide detailed programmes relating to yatras which are planned to end on May 10.

Asked whether bullet proofing of the vehicles carrying Advani and Singh would be done, Duggal said "all action will be taken to ensure safety and security of the VIPs" and, if necessary, steps will be taken to make the vehicles bullet proof.

"Such steps (bullet proofing) can be done by National Security Guards in 24 hours," the Home Secretary said, adding special efforts would be made by security agencies in various states through which the yatras would pass including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
