EC notifies third phase assembly elections in WB

Kolkata: The notification for the third phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal, slated for April 27, was issued today by the Election Commission.

Altogether 77 assembly constituencies in Kolkata, North 24-Pargans and South 24-Parganas districts would go to poll in the third phase.

Of the 77, 21 constituencies are in Kolkata and 28 constituencies each in North 24-Parganas and South 24-Parganas districts, Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Sen said.

"With the notification, nominations for the third phase of election began during the day and would continue till April eight", he said.

Scrutiny of nominations for the third phase poll would be held on April ten. The last date for withdrawal is April 12.

Sen said the EC was monitoring the compliance by political parties of the model code of conduct for the election which came into force on March 1.
