BJP electoral alliance with Janata party for polls Tuesday, April 4 2006 15:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Madurai:
The BJP's Tamil Nadu unit has entered into an electoral alliance with the Janata Party for the May 8 assembly polls.
Under the agreement, the Janata party would contest five constituencies, including Melur, Omalur, Perambur, Madurai Central and Mylapore, a press release issued by BJP state President C P Radhakrishnan and Janata party president Chandralekha said here today (Apr 04, 2006).
Janata party President Dr Subramanian Swamy in a press release, justified the alliance, saying it would enable Hindus to stand up and fight the 'insults' heaped on them by the Dravidian parties and also for the state's due share in national investments.
He alleged that both the AIADMK and DMK fronts had failed to develop Tamil Nadu in the last 40 years. The same applied on the Mullaperiyar dam issue. They had also failed to get Muthuramalinga Thevar's statue installed in Parliament.
He said the The Janata party would release its manifesto on April 14.
The party would be fighting two seats in Kerala, including Trichur and Kasargode. Their electoral campaign there would be to end the 'slavery status' of Hindus in the state, introduce economic reforms for industrialisation and make Kochi port a free port to attract FDI, he said.
