EC asks Haryana Govt to give details of Sonia ads
Saturday, April 8 2006 13:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The Election Commission today (Apr 8, 2006) directed the Haryana Government to provide details of newspaper advertisements carrying pictures of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on April 5.

The EC move comes in the wake of a BJP complaint that the newspaper advertisements sponsored by the Haryana Government violated the poll code as it coincided with the election process underway in five states and Rae Bareli, Gandhi's constituency.

In a communication to the Chief Secretary of Haryana, the Commission said the details should be made available to it by this evening.

The advertisements, which BJP alleged, were put up in newspapers widely circulated in Rae Bareli, appeared on Wednesday when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation of an elevated highway in Panipat.
