P Chidambaram highlights Centre's achievements

Karaikudi (TN): Terming the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu a 'failure", Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said only the Centre was helping people of the state through several welfare measures.

The 'failures' of the AIADMK government has led to the 'stagnation' of Tamil Nadu, Chidambaram told reporters here while campaiging for a Congress candidate for the May 8 assembly elections. Chidambaram said he would list out the failures of the state government during the course of his electioneering.

He said Sethusamudram project, Rice Research Centre at Tanjavur, Siddha Hospital at Chennai, short-term crop loan for farmers for Kuruvai cultivation and education loan forstudents were among the major achievements of the UPA government at the Centre.

The Union Government had given Rs.1700 crore to cooperative banks for helping farmers. The money had been given to cooperative banks in Tamil Nadu on March 31," he said.
