Salman seeks deferral of verdict; court defers trial

Jodhpur: An appeal seeking suspension of the sentence accorded to Salman Khan in the blackbuck poaching case was filed today (Apr 12, 2006)in the court of the District and Sessions judge who deferred the hearing till tomorrow (Apr 13, 2006).

This means the Bollywood actor will have to remain behind bars for one more night at the Jodhpur Central Jail.

This is the actor's third consecutive day in prison after Jodhpur Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Brijendra Kumar Jain sentenced him to five year rigorous imprisonment in the poaching case on Monday.

Salman's counsel H M Saraswat filed the 44-page application, which included 38 judicial points challenging the verdict of the CJM court, before District and Sessions judge GS Mehta who deferred the plea for hearing tomorrow.

Renowned advocate S R Bajwa and Dipesh Mehta, a lawyer from Mumbai, also appeared in the court on behalf of the actor.

Salman and five others were charged with killing a Chinkara in September 1998 at Ghora farmhouse near here.
