Tamil New year day celebrated with usual gaiety

Chennai: Tamils all over the state today (Apr 14, 2006) celebrated the Tamil New year, 'Viya' with usual gaiety and enthusiasm.

People thronged various temples to offer prayers to herald the New year. Special menu consisting of 'payasam' marked the celebrations.

Keralites in the state also celebrated 'Vishu', the New year, by visiting temples.
