Porayar:
Asserting that his party's poll promises, including supply of rice at Rs two a kg, were
practical and would be implemented, DMK chief M Karunanidhi yesterday (Apr 14, 2006) said some were criticising the same out of fear of losing the May 8 Assembly elections.
"Some people, who are in the grip of fear about poll debacle say DMK's promises are impractical. They are against the poor", he said reacting to AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa's remarks that the promises were impractical.
Campaigning for the DMK-led DPA candidates in Nagapattinam District, Karunanidhi, accompanied by Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran, took pains to explain the 'practicality' of implementing his poll promises.
"You all know that I would only say what I would do and would certainly implement what I say. Nothing is impossible. I will implement all the promises. If voted to power, my first
signature would be for supplying 20 kg of rice in two installments every month at Rs two per kg," he said.
Karunanidhi, who addressed roadside gatherings at Kollidam, Sirkazhi, Vaith Keeswarankoil and Mayiladuthurai, said the second signature would be for writing off loans taken by the farmers in cooperative societies and the third would be for reviving the marriage assistance for poor women.
He added that he would definitely distribute free colour TV for the poor households.
The former Chief Minister also said he would restore the training allowance of Rs.45 per day given to the members of the women SHGs by the previous DMK regime, which was later
reduced to Rs.Seven by the AIADMK Government.
