A red alert was sounded in the capital and borders with the neighbouring states sealed following the twin explosions at the historic Jama Masjid here yesterday (Apr 14, 2006).
Security was beefed up around vital installations and religious shrines in the capital, police sources said.
Senior police officials reviewed the security in the capital and tightened vigil in sensitive areas.
Thorough checking of vehicles was being carried out at the border points with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The officials directed the authorities to carry out intensive patrolling throughout the National Capital Region with immediate effect, they said.
"Additional policemen have been deployed near railway stations, bus stands, airport and public places and units of the bomb disposal squad, dog squad have been put on alert as part of the enhanced security measures, " the sources said.
