'Get China like waiver or back out of nuke deal' Monday, April 17 2006 10:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
The BJP yesterday (Apr 16, 2006) demanded that UPA Government at the Centre should pressurise the US to grant India the same waiver as given to China failing which New Delhi could consider withdrawing from the nuclear deal with Washington.
"Let India directly tell the USA to grant the country the same waiver as given to China which is our neighbouring country and, if not, India can think of backing out from the nuclear deal signed with the USA," party President Rajnath Singh told reporters here.
Singh, who came here on electioneering after wrapping up his second leg of Bharat Suraksha Yatra, said there should be no compromise on India's sovereignty and independent decision-making.
He said the Indo-US nuclear agreement would meet only six per cent of the country's energy requirement.
Holding the UPA government responsible for the rise of terrorism in the country, he said, "The repeal of the POTA by the UPA Government without an alternative plan has sent wrong signals".
"This (UPA) Government's attitude is soft towards terrorism", he alleged.
