Monday, April 17 2006 14:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: DMK president M Karunanidhi today (Apr 17, 2006) filed his nomination for the Tamil Nadu assembly polls from Chepauk constituency in the city.

Karunanidhi, who has never tasted defeat in electoral battles, is seeking to enter the assembly for a record eleventh time when the state goes to polls on May 8.

The DMK chief is bidding to achieve a hat-trick from the Muslim-dominated Chepauk constituency, from where he had also won in 1996 and 2001.

Elected to the state assembly for the first time in 1957 from Kulithalai, Karunanidhi moved to Thanjavur in 1962.

He later shifted to Chennai and won from Saidapet in 1967 and 1971, Anna Nagar in 1977 and 1980 and Chennai Harbour in 1989 and 1991.

He did not contest the 1984 polls as he was already an MLC at the time.
