'BJP to support any decree in favour of Telengana'
Wednesday, April 19 2006 10:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Hyderabad: BJP yesterday (Apr 18, 2006) said that it would support any resolution UPA Government would bring in for the formation of a separate Telangana state.

"If UPA government brings in a resolution in favour of aseparate Telengana in the ensuing budget session beginning May 10, our party will support it," senior BJP leader L K Advani said amidst a huge applause at a public meeting at the Nizam College grounds here yesterday.

Advani, whose Bharat Suraksha Yatra traverses through the naxal infested Telengana region in the next two days, said that it was only BJP which was in favour of smaller states and three smaller states were formed during NDA rule.

Accusing the Congress at the Centre and in Andhra Pradesh of playing vote bank politics, Advani said, "Congress had a tie-up with a party committed for Telengana (TRS) before polls and did not respond in an appropriate way after winning elections and forming government at Centre and state."

"Promises and minority appeasement is talked about just before the polls they are quickly forgotten by Congress while BJP firmly believes in equal justice to all and does not appease one section nor discriminate the other," he said.

"BJP would also demand in the ensuing Parliament session for setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe into the growing rate suicides among farmers and suggest measures to tackle the social disorder," Advani said.

He also assured Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), a section of Scheduled Castes favouring categorisation of SCs, that he has written to the Prime Minister in detail about their just demands.
