BJP smashed character of national polity: Advani
Wednesday, April 19 2006 16:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Hyderabad: Terming it one of its biggest achievement, senior BJP leader today (Apr 19, 2006) said the saffron party has 'smashed' the character of national polity by converting it into a bipolar system.

"The biggest achievement of BJP has been its ability to smash the single party rule of Congress and now other parties are left with no choice but to join either of us", he told reporters before leaving for Telangana on the tenth day of his Bharat Suraksha Yatra.

Picking up the contradictions between Congress and its main ally the Left parties, Advani said, Sonia Gandhi flayed the Communists for 'communalising foreign policy' by staging dharnas during US President George Bush's visit.

"It was due to the protests from Left that a visiting US President skipped the address of joint Houses of Parliament," he said.

Reiterating that vote bank politics and minority appeasement were harmful not only for the UPA but also for the minorities, he said infiltration of Bangladeshis into Assam should be dealt with firmly.

On conversions, Advani said, "Conversions are banned in several countries but what we insist is that there should be no inducement and at the same time there would be no prohibition to voluntary conversions."

On nuclear policy, Advani said, "We should not be in any way allowed to be dictated by others about our nuclear programme".
